Noida — In a major development in the mysterious death of a 38-year-old software engineer from Hathras, the Noida Police have arrested the deceased’s 22-year-old girlfriend. The engineer, identified as Umesh, was found dead in a hotel room in Sector-27, Noida, a few days ago. His body was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan, and his girlfriend was reportedly present in the room at the time.
According to the girlfriend’s initial statement to the police, she had gone to the bathroom, and upon returning, found Umesh hanging. However, based on the complaint filed by Umesh’s family and subsequent investigation, police took the girlfriend into custody on charges of abetment to suicide.
Allegations of Blackmail and Financial Exploitation
Umesh’s family has alleged that the young woman had been blackmailing him for quite some time and had extracted a significant amount of money from him. They claimed that the mental pressure caused by the relationship and the financial demands had pushed Umesh towards taking the drastic step.
The arrested woman is a BBA student at a private college in Noida. As per sources, Umesh and the student had been in a relationship for nearly two years, having first met through an online dating app.
Strained Marriage and Divorce Proceedings
Further investigation revealed that Umesh was going through a troubled marriage and had filed for divorce, which was under consideration in court. During this period, he frequently visited Noida to meet his girlfriend. These meetings often took place in hotels, including the one in Sector-27 where he was found dead.
The police are currently examining call records, digital transactions, and CCTV footage from the hotel to further ascertain the circumstances leading to Umesh’s death. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of foul play and are keeping all angles open in the ongoing probe.
